If we look on a cloth and see dots all over it, we think of two things. First, we say “oh it’s polka dots!” Second is “wow, who would want such a design?” And truly, just by how dull polka dots look anyone could conclude that nobody wants polka dots in their home, in their office, in their schools and certainly nobody would want to wear polka dots!
And it might be sad but it is true. In a world where what is considered beautiful are the ones that look busy, the ones that look more unstructured and spontaneous, it is true that something so normal and so regularized like polka dots have no place in art and design just like fascism is revolted by anyone who knows their politics.
That’s why it would really come as a big surprise to a lot of people to find out that there was once a time in history that polka dots were considered the craze! Although this article is written not to talk about that but about how silk ties add, at the least, an appealing characteristic on polka dot bow ties, it would be worth mentioning that polka dots were once considered as the pillar of pop art! It was pop art even before it was brought to us by the Scandinavians.
If today it looks so unattractive, then don’t blame polka dot itself. Polka dots belong to specific period where it lorded over every design, and it did so because it found the mix of colors it would be most comfortable with. That’s why if you want to wear a Formal White with Navy Dots Self Tie Silk Bow Tie and end up looking like a used-up comedian trying to look funny by trying to look like a five year old, its not because the bow tie is a in polka dots. Rather, it’s because five year olds still don’t have any idea with regards to fashion.

It might be a bit of surprising but in fact, according to a survey done by not one, not two, and not even three but five (yes, five!), five of the most reputable schools among the Ivy League universities, that there are a small sector of the population who, because of their active and adventurous lifestyle, would throw away not only the idea of “the traditional way” of getting married, but also the modern to just try the most wickedly boring motif.
When asked what could be the most boring dress motif they could think of, respondents coming from that particular sector all agreed, unintentionally, on one similar idea: self-tie bow ties, jogging pants, slippers and nothing else, not even American Flag Self Tie Bow Tie to give the wedding a bit of color. All of it plain and boring.
But when they were asked where such a boring wedding could be done, all of them too agreed, now with the rest of the respondents, that first and foremost, the place should add an atmosphere of solemnity. That would mean that even with a boring dress code, people put significance with the place where the wedding would be held. Even if it’s a beach wedding or an underwater wedding, or even a rappelling wedding, people would want to feel the rinsed notion of their God. Even if both the bride and groom would look so stupid wearing silk ties, it won’t matter as long as the venue was arranged and prepared with effort according to the liking of those to be wed.

Flipping through some old photographs elicit from us conflicting emotions. There is this part of us who wishes to relive the past. There is this other part who just can’t believe that they were what they used to be.
It is us, wondering if we could feel the same way that we did back then and us questioning how we were able to feel that way back then. Both are strong emotions that it becomes difficult to pass the other in favor of the other.
What adds up to the mystery is the fact that such feelings are normal. Everyone has had his share contradictions and it occurs in different shapes and sizes. It can be as pertinent as relationships and as petty as wearing polka dot bow ties you can no longer imagine wearing.
What’s more amazing is that no matter how we try to say that we’ve changed, we still can’t deny the fact that those past are a great part of us and that we won’t be what we are right now if we weren’t so quirky wearing Light Yellow with Black Dots Self Tie Silk Bow Tie. Not even now that we prefer the finest silk neckties and can actually afford them.
It could be said that emotions don’t really change. When we get nostalgic about something, it does not really mean that we want to be somewhere else other than where we are now. In fact, more often than not, we are glad that the past have ended. We don’t long for the past, it’s just that the emotions are still there lurking somewhere inside us, waiting for a trigger.
